Vietnam won “Asia’s Leading Destination” and 31 other categories at World Travel Awards 2021

On 19th October 2021, World Travel Award, the world-leading award for destinations and business in the tourism and hospitality industry has announced the winners for the “Asia” category. Vietnam, after successfully competing with other major nominees, including China, India, Korea, Thailand, had become the “Asia’s Leading Destination” at the 28th World Travel Awards. This event marked the 3rd time Vietnam won the most prestigious prize for Asian destinations.

Also, the World Travel Awards revealed the winners in 131 other categories. This year, Vietnam gained 31 other awards, including several wins in major categories, such as “Asia’s Leading Sustainable Tourism Destination”, “Asia’s Leading Cultural City Destination” (for Hoi An, Quang Nam Province), Asia’s Leading Tourist Attraction (for Ha Long Bay, Quang Ninh Province).

Vietnam also had 12 accommodations, 3 travel enterprises (Vietnam Airlines, Vietravel, Hai Au Aviation), 1 airport (Van Don International Airport) and 1 cruise port (Ha Long International Cruise Port) being honoured at the 28th World Travel Awards, with many of which won multiple categories, including InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort (4 awards), Vietnam Airlines (2 awards), Van Don International Airports (2 awards), Hotel de la Coupole – Mgallery (2 awards), La Veranda Resort Phu Quoc – Mgallery (2 awards).

For the “Asia’s Leading Tourist Board”, this year, the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism had proudly become the winning nominee, after a tough competition with other 12 tourist boards across the continent. This award can be considered as important evidence for the improvement in terms of tourism management of Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, despite the COVID-19 pandemic causing major challenges for the organization.

The massive win of Vietnam at the World Travel Awards this year has proven the reputation of Vietnam in the global tourism sector. Hope that the awards gained at the 28th World Travel Awards can be a morale boost for Vietnamese tourism to overcome the crisis from the COVID-19 pandemic, and move towards a strong recovery in the future.
