The ASEAN Strategy participation of communities and private sector on tourism development
The ASEAN Strategy participation of communities and private sector on tourism development is developed with the aim of evaluating the current form of participation of local communities and private sector in tourism development in ASEAN countries; and developing a strategy on participation of local communities and private sector in tourism development. These objectives are relevant to the ASEAN Tourism Strategic Plan 2016-2025 by implementing the Strategic Direction 2: “To ensure that ASEAN tourism is sustainable and inclusive”, strategic action in upgrading local communities and public-private sector participation in the tourism value chain.The Strategy was completed thanks to the basis of ASEAN Member states’ reports on communities and private sectors involvement in tourism development, member states’ reports on survey of CBT destinations; the results of the online survey on participation of communities and private sector on tourism development.The Strategy was officially reported to the National Tourism Organization (NTO) meeting at ASEAN Tourism Forum 2019 (ATF Viet Nam 2019). At ATF Viet Nam 2019, the ASEAN Tourism Ministers were pleased to note the adoption of the “Strategy on Participation of Local Communities and Private Sector in Tourism Development”, affirming that the Strategy would help to identify the impact factors, scale of development, and interactions among stakeholders in supporting the ASEAN communities and the private sectors to gradually strengthen their roles and positions in contributing to the development of tourism in the region.Institute for Tourism Development Research has the honour to present the Strategy to the esteemed readers.
